“Authentic Authors” – Grades K, l and 2 learn about real life authors through autobiographies and videos to inspire themselves to become better writers. Kindergarteners will also enjoy an author visit.
“Author Study” – Angela Johnson: Texts by author Angela Johnson and other exemplary authors to support a month-long author study to inspire and appreciation for and an emulation of the author’s writing style. Program includes an author visit.
“Literature Connections” – Classroom literature collections selected to support and reinforce the "Open Circle" program in which children in grades K through 2 are taught skills needed to be good learners and to form positive relationships.
“Playing to Learn” – "Role play" materials chosen to support social growth and development in the Kindergarten "Open Circle" program.
Bogert
3 SmartBoards – SmartBoards are an interactive whiteboard that is connected to a computer and a data projector. Can be used like a computer by sliding your finger across the surface. This is a separate grant specific to Bogert in addition to the 6 SmartBoards given to the district.
Maps – Provides large roll-down maps of the U.S. and the world for grade 3.
Reading Workshop Materials – Creation of grade level libraries for grades 4 and 5 of "just right" books for every reading level; a critical component of the new reading curriculum.
FeederWatch Extension – Follow-up grant to continue participation in the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology. 4th grade students identify birds, analyze data and think like scientists. They are able to add the data they collect to the Cornell database. Now Net cams will allow participation by other classes.
Rock Climbing Walls – Purchase and install two 20 x 6 traverse rock climbing walls for the Travers Gym. Horizontal climbing enhances coordination and fosters team building.

Literary Circles – Materials to support teacher and student-led book discussions during 6th grade Language Arts.
Computer Microscopes – Electronic microscopes, which will allow 7th grade students to view organisms in full digital color and create multi-media presentations using still pictures and video.
Lessons from the Heart –Heart rate monitors allowing students in grades 6 – 8 to set and track physical fitness goals. Instills physical fitness values for a lifetime.
Wildlife Habitat – Student-designed and implemented natural wildlife habitat for grades 6 – 8.
Enhanced Education through Technology – Scanners and printers to assist special needs students in improving academic performance.
Battle of the Books – Academic interscholastic program which allows students in grades 6 – 8 to compete on a non-athletic team. Students read books and answer questions to earn points. Teams can represent USR in county competitions.
Study of Holocaust and Genocide – Funds a new section in the school library to complement the current 8th grade curriculum.
